WASSCE Holders

  1. Must have at least, six (6) WASSCE Credit passes A1-C6 including three (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies, as well as
  2. Three (3) Electives in relevant subjects with a total aggregate of 36 or better.
  3. Must also satisfy Special Programme requirements for programmes chosen.

SSSCE/ABCE/GBCE Holders

  1. Six passes A-D in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics; Integrated Science or Social Studies.
  2. At least three (3) of the passes must be relevant to the area of specialization.

School Certificate/GCE Holders

  1. Five 5 credits at GCE “O” Level, including English Language and Mathematics as well as
  2. Two 2 “A” Level passes other than General Paper in relevant subjects

Diploma Holders

Must possess a Diploma or Higher National Diploma (HND) from an accredited institution.

Mature Applicants

Eligibility Criteria for Mature Applicants

To qualify for consideration under the Mature Students’ Entry route, an applicant must meet the following conditions:

Age and Experience Requirement

  • The applicant must be at least 25 years old by 30th September 2026.
  • Proof of age must be provided using a Ghana Card/birth certificate, or other legitimate documentary evidence.
  • Must have at least 5 years of working experience in the relevant discipline.

Academic Requirements

The applicant must have one of the following:

  • SSSCE: At least E in six (6) subjects — three (3) core subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.
  • WASSCE: At least E8 in six (6) subjects — three (3) core subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.
  • Additional Academic Qualification Pathway: Applicants holding any of the following qualifications may also apply:
    • GCE, DBS, RSA, TVET
    • Applicants must have obtained passes in relevant subjects, and such qualifications will be assessed in accordance with institutional admission requirements.

Applicants should also pass the General Aptitude Test (GAT) and Subject Area Test (SAT) to be organised by the University.

2. Diploma Programmes

WASSCE Holders

Applicant must have passes (A1-D7) in three (3) Core Subjects including English

Language and Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies and A1-C6 in Three (3) Elective Subjects relevant to the programme of interest.

SSSCE/ABCE/GBCE Holders

Applicants must have Credits A-D in Six (6) subjects, comprising THREE (3) Core Subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, and three (3) Elective Subjects relevant to the programme of interest.

3. Postgraduate Admission Requirements

Below are the general entry requirements for the various categories of regular (full time, part time & weekend), distance and sandwich programmes run by the University of Education, Winneba.

PH.D. PROGRAMMES (FULL TIME MODE)

Applicant should possess Researched Master’s Degree in the relevant field of study from an accredited institution, with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.0 in the course work and at least grade “B” in the thesis/dissertation.

ONE YEAR M.PHIL. TOP UP PROGRAMMES (REGULAR/FULL TIME MODE)

Candidate must possess a Master of Education/Master of Arts/Master of Science, with CGPA not less than 2.5, in the relevant field of study from any university recognized by GTEC.

TWO YEARS M.PHIL. PROGRAMMES (REGULAR/FULL TIME MODE)

Candidate must possess a first degree with at least 2nd class Division in the relevant field of study from any recognized university.

TWO YEARS MBA PROGRAMMES (WEEKEND/PART TIME MODE)

Candidate seeking Admission into any MBA programme must:

a)    (i) Have obtained a first degree with at least a 2nd class division in the related field or programme of study from a recognised University. Or

(ii) Be applicants with third class degree with a minimum of two (2) years working experience in related field of study can also apply. Such applicants must pass the University’s entrance examination and the admission selection interview. Or

(iii) Be a qualified member of one of the following professional bodies constituting the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) e.g. ACCA, ICAG, CIMA and ICAEW.

b)    In addition to any one of the requirement in (a) above, the applicant must have at least one year relevant experience in the private or public sector.

MASTER OF EDUCATION PROGRAMMES BY ITECPD (DISTANCE MODE)

Applicants must possess ONE of the following:  

      i.         A first degree with education component from a recognized University in the subject specific area and should have taught for at least two years.

    ii.         A first degree in a subject specific area plus postgraduate diploma/certificate in education.

NB: These Programmes are designed to train graduate teachers who will serve as mentors, administrators, counselling psychologists and leaders in Educational Administration and Management. They are of One (1) Year duration. 

MASTER OF EDUCATION PROGRAMMES BY SANDWICH AND CODEL

(i)        Applicants should possess a good Bachelor’s Degree, with education component, in the relevant field of study from any recognised University.

(ii)       Applicants with B.A. or B.Sc. degree without education component must have a Post Graduate Diploma in Education or Diploma in Education in addition.

M.SC. AND PGDE PROGRAMMES (SANDWICHAND WEEKEND MODE)

Candidates seeking for admission into the programme must have earned a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised University in any discipline with at least 2nd Class Lower Division. Or

Applicants with third (3rd) class division may be considered for admission on the grounds of substantial working/professional experience and shall pass an entrance examination and interview. 

POST-GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN TEACHING & LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION (PGDTLHE) –  WEEKEND MODE

To qualify for this programme, the applicant should be a:

  1. Beginning lecturer in the University of Education, Winneba or any other recognised tertiary institution who has no formal qualifications in teaching in Higher Education. Or
  2. Master’s / Doctorate degree holder who wishes to pursue academic career as a teacher in tertiary institutions.
  3. Applicants with Master’s degree must possess at least 2nd Class Lower Division from any institution accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission may apply for admission.

M.A. IN COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA STUDIES PROGRAMMES (FULL TIME AND WEEKEND MODE)

Applicants who seek admission into a Master of Arts programme in School Communication and Media Studies must have Bachelor’s Degree from any discipline, and should have obtained a class not below 2nd class Lower division.

NB: Applicants who obtain a GPA of 3.0 or better at the M.A coursework and are desirous of pursuing the M.Phil. in the field of study are given the opportunity to apply internally for consideration and transition to a one (1) year Top-Up. M.A. in Communication and Media Studies programmes are run on both regular and weekend mode for one (1) academic year, in which students must complete their dissertation.

OTHER M.A. PROGRAMMES (BOTH REGULAR AND SANDWICH)

a) Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree (at least 2nd Class Division) from the University of Education, Winneba or its equivalent from a recognised University in the relevant field of study.

            b) Applicants with third (3rd) class division in their respective first degrees would be required to pass an entrance examination and admission selection interview.
